Vito’s six months, and he has been exclusively breastfeeding since birth. He had his first taste of water a few days ago, and today, he had his first serving of rice cereal! He downed everything effortlessly, and with little grunts of satisfaction.

Because we’re big on eating organic as much possible, it made sense for us to go the same avenue with Vito. He’s been feed Mommy’s milk from day one, and Mommy eats organic as much as she can! No point in letting the goodness stop by offering him baby food that’s gone through processing. It’s a good thing lots of organic baby cereals are now in the market, and organic fruits and veggies are readily at hand in markets.

Let the photos tell you how yummy he found his first meal:

Dear Vito,

Happy 5th month Birthday, baby!

I can’t believe it’s been only five months, just as much as I can’t believe it’s already been five months since you came into our lives. You were so tiny and small five months ago; now you’re even bigger than some babies who are older than you! Every time we go to a pedia check-up, I am amazed at how much you have grown. You’re longer, heavier and noisier each time we learn something new about you at check-ups, and you’re so well-behaved as well!

This month, you’ve been learning that you can reach for things and touch them with your hands. You favor your right hand, which I hope is a sign that you are right-handed, like Mommy. You enjoy more and more putting stuff in your mouth, whether it be your hands, your lampin, your teether toys, even your pillow! Sometimes your clothes are so soaked with laway that no bib can do you justice, drool boy!) You’re also more aware of the people who love you: Mommy, Daddy, Lolo and Lola, Lolo Pap and Lola Ma, and your loving Ninong Kiddo, Tito Kayo and Ninang Nica. You have no idea, baby, how happy you make them.

This month, you’ve also been going out more, seeing different places around town and out of town, discovering more and more about the world around you. You love being in a van or car: Your eyes light up and you stare and stare out the window at the world that’s outside the speeding vehicle. You seem so at home inside a car that you often fall asleep to the humming of the engine!

You’re so heavy, baby. Mommy can now use her sling for you (Finally!), and you love to be carried around this way. In the same way, you noisily squeal and laugh whenever Daddy carries you around in the baby carrier, which makes you two look like a kangaroo with its joey, hehe. I guess you just love to always look around, taking in more and more of everything that you can see, hear and touch.

This month, we know you’re going to get bigger, stronger and even more healthy than you already are. We know you can’t stay a baby forever, so we’re enjoying this time when we get to hold you, cuddle you and kiss you to our hearts’ content. Thank you for bringing us so much joy, and for teaching us each day that we can become better versions of ourselves.

We love you, Vito!

Love,

Mommy and Daddy

April 8, 2010

Dearest Vito,

Happy 4th month birthday!

It’s me again, your Mommy, writing this letter to you. You’re so much bigger, louder, smiley-er, and funnier than you ever were, which makes your birthday a joyful celebration. Today, on your  17th week of life, I say a prayer of thanks to God for you, for your health, your smiles, and the thousand other things that Daddy and I love about you!

Sometimes I have to stop and stare at you, especially while you sleep, and reminisce the day that you came into the world. You were so tiny, and yet so strong already, even in the delivery room. Back when you were just born, I knew you’d have a clear strong voice — your first cries were inklings of how strong your lungs were, and how loud your voice could be! Today, you have such a loud voice, you shout and holler whenever you can. I also remember the first time the nurse changed your diaper; you cried and cried at the strange new thing that was happening to you. Today, you love being changed, especially when you’re on your changing pad. I remember how you first cried when we gave you a bath in the tub, how strange water must have felt for you, as well as baby bath and shampoo. Today, you love the water so much, you spend a good time kicking and splashing around the tub, and always complaining when we take you out!

You’ve made so many accomplishments this month! You can now have tummy time for a straight 20 minutes, holding your head up ever so high and playing with Daddy and Mommy noisily whenever you do. You can reach for your crib toys, pillows, and rattles, gripping them tightly in your chubby little hands. You can recognize Mommy and Daddy now, smiling at us in ways that makes us weak! You also recognize your Lola, Lolo, Lola Ma and Lolo Pap, your grandparents who love you. You love playing with Ninong Kiddo, who can make you stop crying when you feel alone or sad. You put everything in your mouth now, practicing each day how to bite, which is a telltale sign of your first teeth probably appearing in the coming weeks! Teeth! Where’d the time go that you are already probably expecting your first pearly whites! Baby boy, you’re growing up so fast!

I am savoring these months when you’re still small enough to cuddle all the time. I know time will pass all too soon, and you’ll be running around all over the place. I just love to hug you, take a whiff of your baby breath, nuzzle your neck, and hold you tightly to me. I love you, Vito, and I pray God will bless you in a special way today.

Love,

Mommy 🙂

Dear Vito,

Happy 3rd month birthday, baby!

I can’t believe you’re already at this point. I remember when you were three months inside me, many months ago. I remember going into the ultrasound room, excited to see you for the first time. When I first saw you, it was just the doctor and I in the room. My eyes filled with tears when I saw the little tadpole-like image on the black and white screen. That little thing was you! Daddy and I were so elated; it was hard to believe you were really there, already ours, already our little baby.

Your third month (Jan 8 – Feb 8 )

9 weeks:

  • Your  neck is so strong, you can hold it up for much longer than you ever did. How you love to be walked and marched around facing front, taking in all the things around you.
  • You took your first “road trip” out of town to Subic with Mommy, Daddy, and Lolo Pop and Lola Ma. We went to your Tito Redd’s wedding, and wasn’t it a nice thing to get out of Manila for a while? I remember you didn’t like the car seat much, but still, you behaved the whole time you were in it. Good boy!
  • You’ve learned how to shout! Isn’t it nice to let out a long “ohhhh”? You do it so well!

10 weeks:

  • You are kicking ever so much more, that you turn yourself around on the bed!
  • Lola Nelle played “peek-a-boo” with you, which you love. Now, whenever we play it, you squeal with delight.

11 weeks:

  • You’re still making more and more sounds than ever, and are so chatty! You definitely are a social baby.
  • Also, you’re taking to other company well; now Mommy and Daddy can go on dates because you are able to stay with your grandparents when you need to. Thanks for letting Mommy and Daddy have some alone time. 🙂

12 weeks:

  • This week, you discovered how to push your body up with your feet while Daddy is holding you. You love to look over Daddy’s shoulder when you’re being carried, but lately you’ve discovered your legs – when propped on Daddy’s chest – can take you to a whole new level and view. How excited you are to discover this that you let out a loud shout whenever you prop yourself up!
  • You love watching your cousin, Kuya Markus, play, and make loud noises when he tries to impress you. You’re also able to sleep better through the night.

So many things are happening, changing, baby. And you’re growing faster sometimes than I can keep track of. For all of these, I am grateful. I love you, Vito baby. Happy birthday to you!

You’re two months old today. Happy birthday, Vito!

It’s amazing how things have gone by so fast. Is Mommy getting old, or are you just growing up too fast for me? Sometimes I have to sit back and savor every minute we’re together. I don’t want to think that any moment with you might go to waste. After all, you’ll never be this small again!

Your second month:

5 to 6 weeks old:

  • You started saying more and more things, and talking even more!
  • We got you your first real toys – mitten shakers, which you love to play with in your crib.
  • You also started to notice your mobile, and to look with intent at Mommy and Daddy’s faces.

    7-8 weeks:

    • Your first Christmas! How excited everyone was to give you gifts. You got more gifts that Mommy and Daddy did all together!
      • You seemed to love being propped up and seated on Mommy or Daddy’s lap.
      • You also began to “talk” to all your visitors and those who’d come up to you. What a friendly, jolly baby you are!
      • You also doubled your birth weight at 8 weeks, gaining about 2.5 kilograms since birth. You also grew 4 centimeters more! Added to that, you also received your DpT shots, and didn’t cry at all when you got them.

Have a swell day, baby. We love you so much.

      3 Months.

So many things have happened in the past three months. Just a few of your milestones have been…

      Your first month (Nov 8 – Dec 8, 2010)

      1. 2 weeks old: Your umbi cord finally fell off and we were able to give you your first water bath on November 22! Lola Nelle was here to show me how to carefully bathe you. How much you love the water!
      2. 3 weeks old: Your first smiles. It was the first time you looked up at Mommy and Daddy with those toothless gums flashing a preliminary smile. How cute! Since then, I look forward to your smiles. They’ve made my days, baby.
      3. 4 weeks old:
      • You were baptized, December 6, 2010, at Mary the Queen Shrine. Your family members from all sides came to greet you “welcome” to the Catholic family. We had a brunch for you at Lolo and Lola’s house in New Jersey St, where Mommy used to live.
      • You gained more weight, and were 4 kilos. You grew some more, 4 centimeters in just under 4 weeks! You also bravely received your second Hepa-B shot, and though you cried a little, you stopped after some cuddles from Mommy. What a good boy!
      • You started cooing and gurgling, and your first identifiable “word” was “agoo,” spoken while you were on your favorite place, the changing pad! Since then, you’ve added more syllables to your baby vocabulary.

      Your second month:

      1. 5 to 6 weeks old: You started saying more and more things, and talking even more! We got you your first real toys – mitten shakers, which you love to play with in your crib. You also started to notice your mobile, and to look with intent at Mommy and Daddy’s faces.

      Dear Vito,

      Happy first month!

It’s all happened and gone by so fast. We had a pretty rough time with the late night feedings, Mommy’s recovery, and the general aches and pains of new parenthood. But Daddy and I are so much more happy now that you are here with us. Here are some things that happened over the past month…

      Your first month (Nov 8 – Dec 8, 2010)

Today, your Lola Ma and Lolo Pap bought a little birthday cake for you. Tito Kayo came to visit with Tita Nicole, who came all the way from Canada for a business trip.

We’re so happy you’re here, baby. We love you!

Our son, Vito Sebastian De Luna, came into the world at 8:41 PM, November 8, 2009, at the St Luke’s Medical Center in New Manila, Quezon City. After ten hours of active labor, prayer, and waiting, Vito arrived – no anesthesia needed! He was 6 pounds and 7 ounces, and 49 cm long, scoring a 9.9 on the Apgar rating. Yehey! Suffice it to say, I was proud of myself that I’d hurdled this milestone, the delivery. However, nothing can tantamount to how proud I am of my strong and kicking little boy!

This blog details Vito’s moments as captured by us, his crazy parents, who are in more ways than one, crazy and madly in love with this little boy. We hope you enjoy the journey with us that is, uniquely, Vito.

              How old is Vito?
