Vito’s first time to walk and run around in a nice park was at Ayala Triangle in Makati CBD. It’s about time Manila had a nice park within the city; this metropolis is more like mall town than anything! We spent a nice late afternoon with Vito, his De Luna grandparents, and yaya. Vito wouldn’t stop running around–at 15 months, he is already starting to run! (He walked at 13 months.)

Enjoy Vito’s afternoon delight. 🙂

Vito's first "drawing"

Vito “drew” this while seated on Daddy’s lap at his desk. He would shift the pencil to and from his right and left hands, so he used both hands to make these scribbles! So cute!

Dear Vito,

Happy 11 months, cutie!

You are so big, sweetie. When I put you to bed at night, I see that you’re more and more of a little boy every day that goes by. You’re still a baby, but you’re learning more and doing more every single day. It amazes me how less than a year ago, you were just a little fidgety “watermelon” in me (heehee).

Now, you’re almost a year old. Every day, I remind myself that you’ll never go back to being a little baby. You’ll just keep getting bigger, smarter, heavier, “curiouser,” and yes, cuter and cuter. I still remember the days when you were so small, so light, so helpless and needy. The week we came home from the hospital was the most tiring week I ever had, but it was worth it because you were just too amazing not to care for. Sure, you kept Daddy and I awake for most of that time, but we didn’t mind. In fact, some days we miss it. We will never have those days again.

But we look forward to better days with you, years and years, in fact! Every night, Daddy and I watch you sleep, and we wonder what you’ll be like when you get bigger. These days, we hold on so tightly to the last moments of your babyhood. Next month, you’ll officially be a toddler. And you’re standing up on your own, trying to walk, which makes it even more real to us: You’re a little boy. Still, you will always be our baby boy, our little “boom boom,” little funny man, little tricker-boy, little tough guy.

Today, we’ll sing “Happy Birthday” to you again, and you’ll say “ba-bum” every time we do. We’re still trying to figure out what that means! Whatever it means, we know you understand it’s your birthday. And it promises to be a good one at that. We can’t wait for next month when you’ll have your first birthday party!

We love you, Vito. Have a wonderful 11th month. We can’t wait to see what you’ll do next.

Mommy and Daddy

  • Foods: Now eating a variety of foods. He especially likes Mommy’s homemade baby food, like pureed potatoes, pechay and fish, or pureed zucchini, broccoli and turkey breast. He loves fruit and yogurt.
  • Words: Vito’s vocabulary has definitely increased this past month. Some of his words are: “Mama” (mommy), “Dada” (daddy), “kuh” (car), “kah” (cat), “te-te” (Tracey), “bap-um” (“blow” or “birthday”), “guh” (tiger), to name a few. He knows the words “Lolo,” “Lola,” “Lola Ma” and “Lolo Pap,” and looks to each grandparent according to name, but he cannot say these words yet.
  • Gross motor: His signature crawl is hilarious. He always looks as if he’s about to get up on both feet and stand. He can push himself up to a standing position, most recently by gripping the seat of our dining chairs and pushing himself up.
  • Fine motor: Vito likes to grip things using two fingers, like his pacifier. He can also firmly grip several of his toys, in particular his cow toy, which is rather bulky.

This is just for me (the mom) to keep track of what Vito can eat according to his blood type (B). These foods are those that are recommended for his blood type.

Happy 10th month birthday, Vito!

As I write this, you are lying next to me, sound asleep. When I look down at you, I realize how quickly you’ve grown, how tall you’ve become and how active you are. I remember this time last year, when you were still inside that bump that comprised the most of me; you were already so fidgety then.

Are you really so big already? When I see you crawl, stand yourself up against the sofa or playpen, roll along in your walker, I sometimes have to stop and take it all in slowly. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that you were a tiny little bundle only months ago, helpless and needing me 24/7. Today, you are coming into your own, with every little antic, with every milestone you reach. Pretty soon, you’ll be walking around by yourself, and I’ll wonder what happened to that chubby little “boom-boom” baby who always needed to be carried.

I’m preparing myself for the days when you will want to escape from my arms more than you’ll want to be in them. It’ll just be a matter of time before you’re chatting — you say ever so many things now! I love your little voice when you speak, especially in the mornings when you suddenly babble upon waking up. This will always be one of my fondest memories of you.

These past ten months, I’ve seen you change and grow into a smart, sweet, observant and clever little boy. Yes, you are a little boy, but you will always be my precious little baby.

Happy birthday, little boy. I love you so very much.

Vito had his second dose of the Pneumonia vaccine. During the check-up, he showed Dr. Neri that he could stand with assistance, and during his check-up, he behaved very well.  As usual, he took the shot very well, only crying for a few seconds when he felt the prick. Other than that, the doctor commented that he was one intelligent baby!

Here are Vito’s stats today:

Age: 9 months and 4 weeks (He’ll be 10 months on the 8th of September!)

Head to toe length: 75

Weight: 8.5 kilos

Constitution: Vito had a cold a few weeks ago, so we postponed his second dose of the pneumonia vaccine until he got better.  .

Foods: Vito is now eating a full range of proteins, carbs, and fiber-rich foods. He likes fish a lot, as well as chicken and beef. Sorry, no pork for this baby; Mommy finds pork meat too “dirty” unless it’s organic. He likes fruits, especially blueberries and peaches (together!). He also loves his mixed veggies with soup. In the past month, Lolo’s been giving him graham crackers in between or during meals, which he enjoys.

Milk: Care of fab Mommy Marts, of course!

Supplements: Ceelin (Ascorbic Acid), Tiki-Tiki (Multivitamins), Moringa (malunggay extract)

Dental: Vito now has 6 little teeth! He also loves toothbrushing time.  (Yay!)

Some people have commented that Vito’s rather “plateaued” at his current height and weight. He is tall for his age, and he’s been maintaining his weight at 8.5 kgs, which is still in the weight range of his current age. Don’t worry, people. He’s so active and sweaty all the time, it’s nothing to worry about that he isn’t as chubby as he once was.

This afternoon, we left Vito at my mom and dad’s for the afternoon while Ton and I attended a birthday party. While we were in the mall buying a birthday gift for the celebrant, my brother Kiddo rang me up with the news: “Vito crawled!” Apparently, he and his wife, Amy, were the first to witness the joyous milestone. My parents were able to see Vito’s subsequent attempts while Kiddo and Amy captured it on video.

Yay! Another milestone reached! (Video to follow!)

"What are you looking at, buster?"

Because it is my ninth month (and I celebrated my birthday last August 8), I thought I’d share nine things about me:

1. I am starting (trying) to crawl, but I’m taking my time. I like to push my body up with my arms a lot, but I seem to go backward instead of forward.

2. I want to stand up all the time, like real badly.

3. I can (sometimes) push myself up from lying on my tummy to a sitting position.

4. I have five (yes, 5!) teeth. My mom brushes them after I eat.

5. I like to wave at girls.

6. I have had so many haircuts by Lola, I can’t keep count anymore.

7. I am an average sleeper at night. I can sleep straight, sometimes for 10 hours.

8. I still like to watch Alicia Keys singing “Empire State of Mind,” especially if I’m in a bad mood.

9. I hate having my face cleaned, especially when Mommy and Daddy try to wipe my nose clean from snot.

Dear Vito,

Happy birthday, sweetie!

This post is a day late. It’s because you and I were not feeling too well yesterday, your 9th month birthday. How can it be that today you are already 9 months old, little one? Time seems to be rushing Mommy and Daddy. Sigh.

You have made so much progress in the last month. You’re even starting to sit up on your own, pushing yourself up when you’re on your tummy. It’s fun to watch you try, and whenever you reach another milestone, Daddy and I are so proud of you!

You are also talking more and more. We love it when you say “Ma-ma-ma” and “Da-da-da,” which you do every day. You are beginning to realize that I’m your “Mama” and Daddy’s your “Da-da,” you look our way when you say those silly words! What a smart baby! You learn so fast.

You know how to wave hello and goodbye to people. We love it so much when you wave your hand to greet your grandparents, your titos and titas, and all the people who come to see you. You really know your grandparents now, and have a special relationship with each one. It’s amazing for your Daddy and I to see how well you know the people who love you.

You are getting so heavy, too! Even Daddy finds you so heavy, baby. How you love to wriggle around and wriggle out of our cuddles! Please don’t rush to wriggle out, little boy! We’re going to miss these cuddly times when you start running around, which may not be too far off considering how smart you are. You even try to stand sometimes in your play yard!

There are just too many things happening all too fast. We are so proud of you and all you have accomplished. We can only thank the Lord that you are such a blessing to us. We love you, Vito! Happy birthday!
